Originally known as the Sunshine Coast, the Estoril Coast has a beautiful countryside - a succession of hills dotted with pine trees and houses, sweeping down to the sea. The town of Estoril is one of the main towns on the coastline. It was once a small town but grew during the two world wars as European royal exiles fled to the area. Their many modest, yet architecturally interesting, mansions still remain today. Estoril is located near to Lisbon and also close to the town of Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
