All passengers travelling to the United States are now required to complete an online form used to screen passengers under the Visa Waiver Program. This is called ESTA - The Electronic System for Travel Authorisation. Passengers must go to the ESTA website to submit their details.
Travel authorisation via ESTA will become mandatory on January 12, 2009. After this date travellers will not be allowed to board a flight or cruise to the United States without having successfully completed the ESTA online.
ESTA will ask applicants to provide basic biographical and eligibility information to Customs and Border Protection (CBP). This information will allow CBP to determine, in advance of the applicant's travel, whether the applicant is eligible to travel under the Visa Waiver Program and whether he or she poses a law enforcement or security risk.
The purpose of ESTA is to speed up the process at airports and it is essentially an electronic version of the form previously completed at immigration.
Travellers may apply for authorization via ESTA at any time prior to travel to the United States, but are encouraged to do so at least 72 hours before travelling. All clients are required to present a printed copy of the authorisation to Customs and Border Protection. This new system is also applicable for cruises docking in the United States.
Should you be unable to complete this form on line please contact The Travel Department and we can complete the form on your behalf. An administration fee will apply for this service.
