The City of Munich is located on the River Isar, in Bavaria close to the Alps. Bavaria is the souvenir-icon Germany at its postcard best and the fairy-tale Gothic city of Munich is no exception. The city is a haven for all sorts of culture, with a staggering array of museums and a vibrant arts scene. At the center of the city is the Marienplatz - a large open square with a Marian column in its centre. The square contains the Rathaus-Glockenspiel, the most famous glockenspiel in the world. It was constructed as part of the New Town Hall high up in the Clock Tower. Every day at 11am 32 life sized figures accompanied by 43 bells re-enact two stories from the 16th century to the amusement to those who flock to see this delightful performance.
